If you follow me on Instagram, you've seen my posts featuring the new Blossom & Grow fabric collection by Maureen Fiorellini for Studio E Fabrics. This is Maureen's first fabric collection with Studio E Fabrics and I absolutely love it! Maureen sent me some of her fabric and I got to work, having so much fun designing, creating and sewing.
One of the fabrics in the collection is a cheater orange peel panel.
I knew right away that I just HAD to use Chenille-It on it. Check out how beautifully it turned out:
One panel makes 2 pillow covers!
Supplies needed:
1 Blossom & Grow 6098-21 Multi orange peel panel
2 pieces of fabric measuring 24" x 18" for the pillow backing (I used Blossom & Grow 6099-11 Aqua)
2 pieces of batting measuring 18" x 18"
2 18" x 18" pillow inserts
1 package of white 3/8" Chenille-It
Step 1 - Cut 2 squares from your orange peel panel as shown below.
NOTE: You want to be sure to cut 1/4" outside of the orange peels to allow for a seam allowance.
Step 2 - Place the square orange peel fabric on top of a piece of batting.
Step 3 - Grab your Chenille-It and head to the sewing machine. The awesome part is not only are you adding a beautiful texture detail to your pillow cover, you are also quilting it at the same time. No extra quilting is needed!
By sewing down the middle of the Chenille- It, simply outline the orange peel.
Ideally, you will want your sewing to be on the edge of the orange peel underneath. If you are worried about free handing this, you can use a washable glue stick to lay it out exactly where you want it.
Step 5 - Cut the 24" x 18" backing piece to 11" x 18" and 13" x 18" as seen below.
Step 6 - Finish one of the 18" edges on both of these pieces. To do this, fold the edge down 1/4" and press. Then fold it down another 1/4", press and topstitch.
Step 7 - Place the orange peel panel right side up. Then place the two back pieces (wrong sides down) on top of the quilted orange peel square, being sure the finished edges are towards the middle. Pin or clip in place. Then sew around with 1/4" seam.
Step 8 - Trim the corners, turn inside out and wash. You now have a completed pillow cover. Insert your pillow and enjoy!
